Spotlight: Servili Tilissou
Tylissos situated on the Northeastern mountainsides of Psiloritis, at a distance of 13 kilometres Southwestern to Heraklion, Tylissos is a big village, inland, but close enough to the sea, with more than 1.000 permanent residents. It still holds the name it had since the Minoan period, when it was a flourishing independed city, an ally of the powerful city of Knossos.

 Makrigialos is literally translated as "long shore" and the long beach and several other sandy coves that are never overcrowded, provide excellent conditions for swimmers of all experience and children due to the soft, gently shelving main beach and clean water.
The towns have many tavernas, bars, restaurants and shops, but remain
unspoilt and are ideal places for those looking for a quiet relaxing
holiday, but with the facilities offered by larger resorts.
Makrigialos lies in the south east corner of Crete and is the southern most tourist area in Europe. The towns of Ierapetra (25 minutes by car) and Sitia (45 minutes by car) have everything you might need that you have not been able to find in Makrigialos. Taxis can also be booked for the airports at Heraklion (120 km) or Sitia (55 km) for pick-up and returns.
From April until the end of October there are a number of charter airlines flying from most major cities in Europe direct to Heraklion, Crete. Visitors to Crete will be pleased to know that Olympic Airways have now started regular Monday, Wednesday and Saturday flights from Athens to the newly extended airport at Sitia.
If you try to reach Makrigialos from Heraklion airport you follow the signs to Agios Nikolaos. As you reaching Agios Nikolaos you follow the sign to Ierapetra. As you enter Ierapetra you will see a cross-road. Turn left and drive straight
ahead for about 20 Km.
Sitia is in approximately 45 minutes drive away from Makrigialos. Guests who do not need a car during their stay find the taxis to be very quick, convenient and economic way of getting to and from the airport. |
